Transgenesis

Transgenesis (also known as genetic engineering) involves the in vitro transfer of a gene or genes (which are usually – but not necessarily – from an unrelated species. It is a powerful technology, provided that there is a suitable transgene available. If there is, the question is whether you are licensed to use it.

If you plan to make a new transgenic event, you need to have the capacity to perform the transformation. You also need to be aware of all the regulatory issues surrounding the release of a transgenic crop.
