Workshop - Phenotyping wheat for water limited environments

Drought continues to be a major limiting factor to wheat production worldwide, with often devastating consequences especially in developing countries.

Knowledge on breeder-friendly phenotyping methods for water-limited environments, trait value per region, and the basis for drought adaptation of ICARDA lines will be communicated in a workshop from the 16^th to 18^th April 2013 at the INRA-CRRA and ICARDA headquarters in Rabat, Morocco. The workshop is open to breeding programs in the Central & West Asia and North Africa (CWANA) region, as well as GCP collaborators and other interested parties from other regions.

Through a combination interactive lectures, technical discussion groups and hands on experience in the  lab and field, the course aims to provide the participants with the theoretical and practical knowledge of the principles and techniques for screening for putative traits increasing water productivity, share results on germplasm evaluation in different mega-environments and the value of putative key traits for drought adaptation, and give participants the opportunity to interact in a larger group of breeders and physiologists and share their experiences and perspectives in breeding for environments with limited water.

The workshop is targetted at plant breeders and pre-breeders from developing country institutes,  international research institutes and private industry. It  will be facilitated by Tadesse Wuletaw of ICARDA, Fernanda Dreccer and Tony Condon  from CSIRO Plant Industry, Australia, and Hassan Ouabbou  of INRA-CRRA, Morocco.
