Shawn Yarnes and Clarissa Pimentel from the Integrated Platform (IBP) will present the Breeding Management System (BMS) to the cowpea working group at the University of California Riverside.  The emphasis of the IBP portion of the cowpea workshop is to support 2014 field trial design, data collection, and analysis. Participants will learn to use the BMS to assist field tests of 30 advanced lines developed through marker-assisted recurrent selection. Participants will also be introduced to the BMS marker-assisted backcross tool.

The training will cover:

  • Introduction to the Breeding Management System
  • Germplasm List Management from the Database
  • Import Germplasm from Excel spreadsheets
  • Field Trial Design: Three Locations
  • Single Site Statistical Analysis: Batch of Three Locations
  • Multi-Site Statistical Analysis: G x E Three locations
  • Multi-Site Statistical Analysis: G x E Nine locations
  • QTL Analysis: Seed Weight
  • Marker-Assisted Backcrossing
