African maize researchers are invited to send their germplasm for maize lethal necrosis (MLN) screening for the 2015A planting season, to be done through artificial inoculation at the CIMMYT MLN facility at Naivasha, Kenya.
The CIMMYT MLN Screening facility is the largest of its kind established as a response to the MLN outbreak in eastern Africa in 2013. The facility is jointly managed by the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) and CIMMYT, and was established with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture. Since its inception in 2013, the facility has evaluated more than 20,000 accessions from over 15 multinational and national seed companies and national research programs.
